What a difference a week makes – temps warmed up and the snow from the last update melted! This update contains wet and soggy ground, mud, blue skies, beautiful sunrises, lots of farm tours/walkies for the puppies, and post-snow hutch and coop clean outs!
Remember all that snow from last week’s photo update? It was amazing how quickly it melted as soon as it warmed up to above freezing temps.
Mare started venturing out for more walks and staying outside longer when the snow wasn’t above her belly.
Some people say she’s spoiled because we weren’t forcing her outside, but she was just 10 week old puppy when the snow and cold started and her fur was still puppy fur. She feels much much tougher now, and better able to handle the weather.
She’s so curious about the grass and mud and has to taste it all!
Taleggio is ready for dinner!
I was trying to get a photo of the sunrise behind them… this is even better! Sweet boys!!
The alpacas are so curious and sweet about any new animal we bring home, and anyone who visits. I think they think dogs are baby alpacas… and they love them as long as they don’t try to chase them or bark at them.
Mare is a little intimidated about the alpacas (rightfully so – look how much bigger they are than she is!). Mare is also easily distracted so she’s not intimidating to the alpacas. Perfect combo!
Chesney isn’t intimidated by the alpacas and will sometimes sneak into the alpaca field behind me when I’m doing farm chores to check things out. He’s been right there among their long legs and not even a little nervous. We are nervous because the alpacas’ movements can be unpredictable… especially when they’re nervous, but I sort of admire his courage.
Side note: I love how the white spot on Mare’s butt looks like a heart when her tail is down!
The pups are trying to figure out a leaf (and maybe a bug or something under it) – perfect opportunity for a sneaky alpaca sniff!
Oooops, they spotted her!!!
See the mud in the alpaca field… ewwwww! All of the well-travelled paths are mud. We’re hoping to reseed this part of the alpaca pasture this spring!
The chickens are not at all curious about Mare… it’s more like, “RUN!” when she comes near. I’m not sure if Mare has really noticed them. Chesney always loved to stare at the chickens from the fence… Mare, not so much! She’s very busy with the leaves and mud and bugs.
More mud… and walks with the best buds.
Time for a resty!
They play hard together all the time… they rarely stop on their own – we usually have to separate them. It’s sweet when they also rest together.
Mare is ready to play again but Chesney isn’t quite done with his resty.
Hard to say no to this face.
“Please?”
Such cool clouds and skies this time of year.
Sunrise! Only a tiny bit of snow left along the edges of the fields.
Another beautiful sunrise… definitely worth getting out of bed for this!
Good morning Sheepies!!! Ready for breakfast? (They ALWAYS are ready!!)
The clouds around the sun look like a funky mustache… or an eagle soaring… or maybe angel wings?!
Blue skies and sunshine!!! Amazing!
Once the snow melted and temps warmed up a bit, I could finally open the doors to the sleeping area in the chicken coops, and boy oh boy did they need to be cleaned out. These girls were very happy with their clean, dry coop, and the fallen extras that they could scratch and peck on the ground is fun, too!
My walnut tree and the garden!! I cannot wait to get it going again! Lots to clean up and plan and plant!
The bunny hutch got a clean out, too, and Pippa was very excited, as you can tell!! She’s always kinda pissy when I’m cleaning it out… like, “I worked really hard to make all of this pee and poop, and now you come in and just take it away!”, but then when I’m done, she’s like”Ohhhhh, this is nice!”
Shaleigh’s turn to walk the little pups around the yard!
*One more snow photo… * We recycle our Christmas tree as a toy for the alpacas… here’s Zoe checking it out!
This is one determined squirrel…look at those back legs holding onto the tree! Pretty fun to watch him!
Oh, B…that was fun!! The looks on the alpacas faces when they’re checking our the tiny pups. Mare’s heart-shaped butt. I vote for the angel wings description of the clouds. and Who’s in the barn at sunrise??? What a wonderful visit–especially when actual visiting isn’t in the cards! I think you should invite us to spend the night sometime so we can do sunrise with you. I’ll grumble at dawn…and then be transformed!! Love you so!!! Mama
