Alpaca Dryer Balls
Do you know about alpaca dryer balls?
Dryer balls are a natural, chemical-free, non-toxic alternative to dryer sheets. Just throw three to six balls in the dryer with your laundry and they’ll help with drying time, reducing static cling, and even make your clothes softer. Dryer balls can be made of plastic, wool and other fiber.
I make dryer balls using our alpaca fiber, and I’ve found that they are the best! I can wash all my kids fuzzy jammies, you know, the ones with the feet, and fleece blankets and jackets, and have NO STATIC CLING! It’s amazing! There were a couple of times last summer when it was hot and dry outside and in the winter when it was cold and dry when there was a little bit of static in those heavy fleece loads, but there would be a little bit of static with dryer sheets, too, so I wasn’t worried.
Dryer balls last for 2 to 5 years, depending on how much laundry you do. If you find that the static cling factor is reduced, you can “recharge” them by washing them in hot water, and throwing them in the dryer on high heat.
When I first started using them, I missed the smell of laundry… I knew it was better for our health and for the environment, but I really love the smell of laundry. Now I add a few drops of essential oils to the balls and I’m in heaven all over again! (This one is my fave!) The whole house smells good when I’m drying a load of laundry now!
I sell our alpaca dryer balls for $20 for a set of 3. If you’re like me, and you don’t fold your clothes immediately when they come out of the dryer (please don’t look at the bed in our guest room!), you might want to get two sets because they get stuck in pant legs and sleeves. I start my loads with six to nine balls and usually there’s at least one ball left in the last load.
I’ll have dryer balls for sale at the Makers and Growers Market on August 31st from 9 am to 4 pm at our property here in Stanwood – 30709 68th Ave NW Stanwood, WA 98292.
If you can’t make it to the market because of timing or distance, send me an email at stevenshomestead@hotmail.com, and we can make other arrangements! 😊
